French Air Traffic Strike Disrupts European Travel
Thousands of Flights Affected
On July 3, 2025, French air traffic controllers began a major strike that forced airlines to cancel more than 3,000 flights across Europe. Airports in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Bordeaux fell into disarray as passengers waited for hours or turned away altogether.
Controllers Demand Change
Union leaders stated, “We strike not to harm, but to be heard.” Workers demanded better pay, improved shift hours, and increased staffing. They blamed the government for ignoring repeated warnings.
Airlines and Travelers Scramble
Air France, EasyJet, and Ryanair canceled major portions of their schedules. Some flights diverted to neighboring countries. Tourists missed holidays. Business travelers lost deals. Frustrated passengers flooded terminals, demanding answers.
“Delay today, disaster tomorrow,” warned one union rep, accusing the civil aviation agency of “burying its head in the clouds.”
Strike to Continue Tomorrow
The strike continues on July 4. Travelers flying to, from, or over France should expect ongoing delays or cancellations. Airlines urged passengers to check flight status before heading to airports.
