Thousands of protesters flooded the streets of major U.S. cities over the weekend in response to President Trump’s nationwide immigration raids. Demonstrators gathered in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and New York, holding signs and chanting “Families belong together” and “Stop the raids now!”
The raids, led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), aimed to detain undocumented immigrants with final deportation orders. Critics say the actions have spread fear across immigrant communities. “We’re not criminals—we’re families, workers, and neighbors,” said Maria Torres, a protester in Houston.
Local leaders joined in condemning the raids. New York Mayor James Riley stated, “We will not let fear define our communities. ICE is not welcome here.” Many cities have increased support for sanctuary policies in direct defiance of federal pressure.
Protest organizers called the raids “a violation of basic human dignity” and demanded an end to what they described as “militarized immigration enforcement.” Civil rights groups, church leaders, and students stood in solidarity with affected families.
Despite federal officials claiming the raids target only “criminal aliens,” many say the reality tells a different story. “They’re tearing families apart without warning or reason,” said protester Leila Ahmad in Chicago.
The protests reflect a growing nationwide backlash and a demand for humane immigration reform and protection of undocumented families.
